The City of Santa Maria is located in Santa Barbara County on the Central Coast of California, about 250 miles south of San Francisco and 170 miles north of Los Angeles in the heart of one of the nation's premier wine regions. Santa Maria, covering about 22 square miles is in a fertile plain surrounded by rolling hills on three sides and the Pacific Ocean on the west and boasts a mild climate almost always between 60 and 80 degrees. Santa Maria has certainly found a balance between residential and industrial development while still keeping agriculture as a center of its economy. Agriculture it seems will continue to thrive side-by-side with other important growing sectors of the local economy, including the aerospace industry; communications; high-technology research and development; energy production; military operations; and various manufacturing industries. Many types of housing are available from luxury homes to condos, from new developments to classic bungalow architecture, and ranches dot the landscape as far as you can see. The Santa Maria Valley is an outstanding place to call home for retirement or raising a family and everything in between. You will discover beautiful scenery, championship golf courses, national theater, bird watching, pristine beaches, performing arts, world famous barbecue, succulent strawberries, nearby missions, hiking, festivals, family events, and award winning wineries. In 1988 & 1998, Santa Maria was chosen to receive the prestigious national All-American City Award recognizing it's civic excellence, where community members, government, businesses and non-profit organizations work together to acknowledge critical local issues. There's no need to sacrifice conveniences, however. Costco, Marshall's, Ross, TJ Maxx, Walmart, Target, Home Depot, and department stores such as Macy's and Kohl's are located in Santa Maria.

Part of the Santa Maria Valley, is Orcutt, an unincorporated area of northern Santa Barbara County. Consisting of oil, farm, vineyard country, and space and missile industry, the small, western flavored village of Old Town Orcutt is a perfect blend of old and new, rural and suburbia, all rolled into one. Know for its popular school district, and with many new housing developments, Orucutt is a great place to live!
